Let's Go Back to the Bible

110 years old

Today would have been my grandfather’s 110th birthday. While I only have a child’s memory of him, he reminds me of two Bible characters who died when they were 110 years old.

Joseph, the favorite son of Jacob, died in Egypt when he was 110 years old (Gen. 50:26). Joseph was one who trusted in God. Although his life took unusual turns, he saw the providence of God actively at work to take care of His people. Joshua, the son of Nun, died when he was 110 years old (Josh. 24:29). That same verse summarizes the life of Joshua by calling him, “the servant of the Lord.” Joshua was one of the faithful spies (Num. 14:6-10), who lived to see the presence, power and promise of God active among His people, so that Joshua determined that he and his family would always “serve the Lord” (Josh. 24:15).

My grandfather reminds me of these two faithful heroes, who loved God, trusted in God and followed God to the very end. Are you walking in the footsteps of these servants of the Lord?
