King David faced much opposition in his life. Many times he had to flee and run for his life. His enemies were not always foreign nations, but sometimes his own king (Saul) and sometimes his own son (Absalom). David’s heart is transparent as you read through the book of Psalms, as he lays it open in his appeals to God. Consider this one from the first verse of Psalm 35: “Fight against those who fight against me.”
David makes that appeal because he knows that God had already been doing that, so he has absolute confidence, in the midst of his despair, that God will certainly continue to fight for him.
What about you? Do you know that God will fight for you (Deut. 1:30; 20:4)? Do you know that God is more powerful than any enemy you face, including and especially the devil (1 John 4:4)? Do you know that the strength for your battles comes only from the Lord (Eph. 6:10-18)? Do you know that it doesn’t matter who is “against us” when “God is for us” (Rom. 8:31)?
