When I was a kid, I watched a fair amount of the Popeye the Sailor Man cartoon. It seemed pretty simple—pop a can of spinach and you get strong. Around that same time, whenever something was broken around the house, my dad would whip up a homemade batch of his epoxy. Again, it was simple—if you put epoxy on it, it was stuck together for good. A good while later, the Energizer Bunny commercials started running. They made it look simple—put Energizer batteries in your devices and they’ll keep going and going and going.
I’ve thought about these three things and realized there is at least one thing they have in common. Your marriage needs some spinach, to keep it strong. Your marriage needs some epoxy, to hold it together. Your marriage needs some Energizers, so that it will keep going and going. Where can you get all of that? In a mutually prioritized relationship with God! When you and your spouse share a love for the Lord, His Word, His church and His eternal home in heaven, your marriage will be strong, stick together and keep going and going and going (Eph. 5:22-33; 1 Pet. 3:1-7).
