Circled up in a moment of celebration following a young man’s baptism, some older (than him) Christians offered quick advice on living the Christian life. Several themes ran through their wise counsel including, “Don’t try to do the Christian life on your own. You’ve got a great Christian family who loves you.”
I wondered how many “older” Christians need to hear that same advice. How many “older” Christians come to church, but besides that, they are just doing the Christian life on their own? How many “older” Christians have not spent time with their fellow Christians (outside of the worship assembly) in the last month? The last six months? The last year?
When the Lord first established His church, they “continued steadfastly in…fellowship” (Acts 2:42)? Do you? They were often found “together” beyond just Sundays (Acts 2:44). Are you? They longed to see each other (Rom. 1:11), face to face (2 John 12), to encourage (1 Thess. 5:11) and bond with each other (Eph. 4:3). Do you? To be “in” Christ’s church calls for us to be “with” the people of His church (Rom. 15:32). Are we/you truly His church?
