Humans are so finite that we often limit our focus to the finite. We see “this nation” in conflict with “that nation.” We think “this nation” is more powerful than “that nation.” We fear “one nation” but disparage “another nation.” Can I challenge all of us to look up?
As Isaiah prophesied about mightier nations taking the nation of Israel into captivity, the prophet wanted God’s people to stop focusing on the nations and to focus on HIM. He exclaimed,
“Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing… All nations before Him are as nothing, and they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless” (Isa. 40:15, 17).
Where is your daily focus? Are you so filled with the news of the day and what’s happening in this nation and that nation that you’ve taken your focus off the King of kings and His “holy nation,” the church (1 Pet. 2:9)? What are you seeking “first” (Matt. 6:33)?
