  • Do Not Be Mistaken About Life After Death!
    1. The dead continue to live before God (Luke 20:38b)
      • Jesus argued that the physically dead are still “living” (Luke 20:37-38)
      • The present tense “I am” (Matt. 22:32) proves God is still God of His dead saints
      • This was proved by the O.T. (Ex. 3:6) and the N.T. (Luke 16:19-31; Rev. 6:9-11)
      • At death, it is the body that dies when the spirit departs from it (Jas. 2:26)
    2. The dead will be raised by God (Luke 20:37)
      • The Sadducees mocked the idea of “in the resurrection” (Luke 20:33)
      • Jesus used the Scripture to prove “that the dead are raised” (Luke 20:37)
      • The O.T. taught the resurrection (Job 19:25-27; Psa. 16:9-11; Dan. 12:1-3)
      • The N.T. teaches the resurrection (Jn. 5:28-29; 1 Cor. 15:51-57; 1 Th. 4:14-17)
      • The resurrection of the dead is as certain as Jesus’ resurrection (1 Cor. 15:12-20)
    3. The raised will live in a different realm created by God (Matt. 22:30)
      • “That age” will be different than “this age” (Luke 20:34-35)
      • The raised body will be “a spiritual body” (1 Cor. 15:35-49), not fleshly (15:50)
      • A place of change—shall be changed (1 Cor. 15:50-53; Phil. 3:21; 2 Cor. 5:2-4)
      • A place of immortality—no death or sickness (Lk. 20:36; 1 Co. 15:53-54; Rv. 21:4)
      • A place of beauty—incorruptible, undefiled, unfading (1 Pet. 1:3-5)
      • A place unlike this world (Mark 12:25; 2 Cor. 5:1; Phil. 3:20; Rev. 21:4b; 22:1-5)
  • Do Not Be Mistaken About Life Before Death!
      • Error begins when Scripture (Deut. 25:5-10) is mixed with human assumption
      • Error grows when Scripture is not carefully studied (Matt. 22:29)
      • The answer to the Sadducee’s question was right there in Scripture (Matt. 22:31)
      • Imagined circumstances cannot overturn or rewrite revealed truth
      • Every teaching and practice must come from and align with Scripture (Col. 3:17)
        1. God gives us every answer we need to know how to be saved and how to acceptably serve Him today (2 Pet. 1:3; 2 Tim. 3:16-17)
        2. We must respect the answer of the Bible and dare not question it (Luke 20:40)
