We typically begin our Sunday morning worship with one of our young men reading some verses from Psalms to help us focus on our God. During the week before, I usually text the young man next in the rotation to ask him if he will read from Psalms that coming Sunday. There is one young man, over the years of his reading, who gave me these actual responses to my request: “Absolutely.” “Most definitely.” “I sure can.” “You can count on me.” “I would love to.” He never said anything like, “Let me think about it. Let me check. I’m not sure.” It was always like he was jumping at the opportunity and thankful for it.
Where did he learn that? Recently I asked his mother if she would help with a project here at the church. Guess what her response was? “I would love to help!”
What is your response when someone at church asks for your help? Are you eager? Are you excited? Are you thankful? How are we raising our children to respond to such opportunities? “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord” (Col. 3:23).
