  1. God’s Will on Marriage
    • God created mankind—He directs and the created follow (19:4)
    • God created male and female—uniquely compatible (19:4)
    • God created marriage—after He created woman (19:5; Gen. 2:23)
    • God created marriage laws—He “said” (19:5; Gen. 2:24)
    • God created marriage permanence—God joined: 2à1 (19:5-6)
    • God created marriage fulfillment (Gen. 2:18; Eph. 5:22-33)
  2. God’s Will on Divorce
    • Divorce has never been God’s will…from the beginning (19:3-6, 8)
    • Divorce is hated by God (Mal. 2:16)
    • Divorce is severing the union the Creator yoked together (19:6)
    • Divorce must be viewed as God views it
  3. God’s Will on Remarriage
    • Christ severely limits who may divorce and remarry
    • The person who divorces and remarries (19:9):
      1. Commits adultery, because still “joined” by God to previous spouse
      2. May do so for only one cause—his/her spouse committed fornication
        • Fornication takes what is honorable in God’s eyes and dishonors it
        • The one who can divorce and remarry is the one who has been sinned against
        • Jesus does not permit the fornicator to divorce and remarry for own fornication
      3. Must not lead others to sin also (19:9b; cf. 5:32)
    • The disciples recognized how serious Jesus is about this (19:10)
    • Christ’s great motivation to avoid sinful marriage = the kingdom of heaven (19:12)
  4. God’s Will on Salvation
    • Believe Jesus is God’s Son – John 3:16
    • Repent of your sins – Acts 2:38
    • Confess your faith in Jesus – Romans 10:9
    • Be immersed into Christ – Mark 16:16
      1. God will forgive all of your sins – Acts 2:38
      2. God will add you to His church – Acts 2:47
      3. God will enroll you in heaven – Hebrews 12:23
    • Remain faithful to Jesus unto death – Revelation 2:10
