    1. He would be crucified in “a little while” (13:33; 14:19; 16:16-19)
    2. His time of being “with” the apostles was nearing an end (14:25, 30; 16:4-5)
    3. When Jesus was arrested, His disciples would be “scattered” (16:32)
    4. When Jesus died:
      1. His disciples would “weep and lament” and “be sorrowful” (16:20)
      2. The world would “rejoice” (16:20)
  2. Jesus Was Going to Be Raised
    1. After His death, Jesus told the disciples, “You will see Me” (14:19; 16:16, 19)
    2. After His death, Jesus told the disciples, “I will see you again” (16:22)
    3. When Jesus was raised:
      1. His disciples’ sorrow would be “turned into joy” (16:20; cf. Psa. 30:5)
      2. His disciples would “rejoice” (16:22)
      3. His disciples would find a “joy” no one could “take from” them (16:22)

    1. Jesus would leave and then send the Holy Spirit to the apostles (16:7; cf. 7:39)
    2. The promise of the Holy Spirit was made to the apostles – “you/your” (61 x’s)
    3. The Holy Spirt Would Be Their Divine HELPER
      1. He would come to them as “another Helper” after Jesus (14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7)
      2. He would “abide” with them after Jesus left (14:16-17)
    4. The Holy Spirit Would HONOR Jesus (not honor Himself)
      1. He would “testify” of Jesus (15:26)
      2. He would “glorify” Jesus (16:14)
      3. He would “declare” Jesus (16:14-15)
    5. The Holy Spirit Would REVEAL God’s COMPLETE Truth to Them
      1. The Holy Spirit is indeed “the Spirit of truth” (14:17; 15:26; 16:13)
      2. He would not modify Jesus’ truth or originate His own truth, but He would speak the Word of God in perfect harmony with the Godhead (16:13b-15)
      3. He would remind them of what Jesus had already taught (14:26)
      4. He would reveal what Jesus had not yet taught them (16:7, 12)
      5. He would reveal things to come (16:13)
      6. He would guide the apostles into ALL truth (16:13; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:3; Jude 3)
    6. The Holy Spirit would CONVICT the World (Through the Word)
      1. He would convict the world of sin (16:8, 9)—unbelief is at the root of all sin
      2. He would convict the world of righteousness (16:8, 10)—only one way to the Father
      3. He would convict the world of judgment (16:8, 11)—as certain as Satan’s condemnation
    7. We have the complete revelation of the Holy Spirit for us today in Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21; 1 Cor. 2:9-13)
