  1. Two Men with Very Different Reputations
    • The rich young ruler would have been respected by the people
    • Zacchaeus would have been rejected by the people
    • But Jesus cared about both of them (Mark 10:21Luke 19:5)
  2. Two Men Who Both Moved Toward Jesus
    • The rich young ruler ran to Jesus with a serious question (Mark 10:17Luke 18:18)
    • Zacchaeus also ran because he diligently wanted to see Jesus (Luke 19:3-4)
    • Both men showed strong interest, but only one showed surrender
  3. Two Men Who Responded Differently to the Words of Jesus
    • Jesus gave the rich young ruler a command that touched his idol (Luke 18:22)
    • The rich young ruler went away sorrowful (Luke 18:23)
    • Zacchaeus responded with joyful obedience (uke 19:5-6)
    • Our response to Jesus is revealed when His word touches something we do not want to surrender
  4. Two Men Who Received Very Different Results
    • The rich young ruler went away without the treasure he needed most (Mark 10:22)
    • Jesus warned how hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom (Matt. 19:23-26Luke 18:24-27)
      1. Wealth brings unique temptations (1 Tim. 6:9)
      2. Warnings in Scripture (Luke 12:15Matt. 6:19-211 Tim. 6:6-1017-19Col. 3:5)
    • Zacchaeus received the greatest blessing =   “Today salvation has come to this house” (Luke 19:9)
    • The difference was their treasure
      1. One valued possessions more than Jesus. One valued Jesus more than possessions.
      2. One kept his money but lost his soul. One surrendered money and saved his soul.
      3. In the presence of Jesus, money reveals what rules the heart
  5. Jesus Came to Bring Salvation to Your Soul
