THE SETTING OF THE SIGNOFF

    1. Romans ends where it began:
      with the gospel of Christ and the obedience of faith (1:1-5+16:25-26)
    2. The signoff is a summary of the whole book
    3. Romans has shown:
      • the universal need for the gospel
      • the saving power of the gospel
      • the transformed life of the gospel
      • the unity produced by the gospel
      • the glory due to God for the gospel
    4. Paul closes Romans by praising the God of the gospel

    1. The Gospel Strengthens Us

    1. Am I being strengthened by the gospel?

The Gospel: Our Identity in Christ

THE SETTING OF THE SIGNOFF

    1. Galatians is an urgent letter about the purity of the gospel
      • Some were troubling the churches of Galatia by distorting the gospel
    2. The book has emphasized:
      • there is no other gospel (Gal. 1:6-9)
      • justification is not by works of the law but through faith in Christ (Gal. 2:16)
      • believers are sons of God through faith and baptism (Gal. 3:26-27)
      • in Christ, all are one (Gal. 3:28)
      • Christians must stand fast in liberty and not return to bondage (Gal. 5:1)
      • circumcision is nothing, but faith working through love is everything (Gal. 5:6)
      • circumcision is nothing, but a new creation is everything (Gal. 6:15)
    3. Paul closes Galatians by drawing a line between those who boast in the flesh and those who walk by the gospel of the new creation

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SIGNOFF

    1. Am I walking according to the gospel’s rule?
    2. Am I finding my identity in Christ?
    3. Am I willing to bear reproach for Christ?
    4. Am I resting in the grace of Christ?
