Want to Study the Bible? Start Here

Many people want to understand God’s Word but are unsure where to begin. If you have ever opened the Scriptures and felt overwhelmed, you are not alone. The good news is that anyone can study the Bible with confidence when they approach it with the right attitude and a simple plan.

The Bible teaches that God intends for people to learn from His Word. In Acts 17:11, the Bereans were praised because they “received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Their example reminds us that every person can examine Scripture for themselves.

At the Palm Beach Lakes Church of Christ, we often meet people who want to grow spiritually and understand the Scriptures more clearly. If you are searching for a church in Palm Beach Gardens where you can ask questions and learn directly from the Bible, we would love to help.

Start with the Right Attitude

When we study the Bible, our goal should be to understand what God has revealed and apply it to our lives.

The Scriptures teach that God’s Word is meant to guide us. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Before reading, it may be helpful to take a moment to pray and ask God for wisdom. James 1:5 reminds us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

Approaching the Word with humility helps us learn what God is truly teaching.

Read Carefully and Ask Questions

When you study the Bible, slow down and pay attention to the message of each passage. Consider asking questions such as:

  • What is happening in this passage?
  • What does this teach me about God?
  • What does this teach about how people should live?

God’s Word is powerful and able to guide us. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Taking time to think about what you read helps you apply it to your daily life.

Study with Other Christians

Personal study is important, but the Bible also encourages Christians to learn together.

Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Studying with others gives you the opportunity to ask questions, grow in understanding, and encourage one another in faith. If you are looking for a church in Palm Beach Gardens where people open the Scriptures together and seek to follow the teachings of the New Testament, we invite you to visit and learn with us.

Be Consistent in Your Study

Spiritual growth takes time and consistency. Even a few minutes each day can help you develop the habit to study the Bible regularly.

The psalmist described the blessing of meditating on God’s Word in Psalm 1:1-2: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly… but his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

Regular study allows the message of Scripture to shape your thinking and guide your decisions with wisdom.
